Description

This paper focused on the effects of scaling in anthropometry and optimization calculation methods for muscle strength on developing a female muscle strength prediction model. We compared two types of muscle strength prediction solvers, AnyBody and OpenSim. Those two solvers use different way of scaling in skeletal dimension. Only AnyBody considers the change of fat percentage in model scaling process. We compared the muscle waveforms for the scaled female models calculated by two solvers. We also examined the effects of the optimization method by comparing the analysis results under static conditions and dynamic conditions. We found the simulation results for static conditions by OpenSim were sensitive to small changes in joint angular velocity because the optimization algorithm of OpenSim adopts the proportional differential control though the simulation results by two solvers were similar for dynamic simulations. As a future prospect, the female muscle strength prediction models should be validated with dynamic and continuous exertion of muscle strength.
