Description

There is a concern that precipitate deliveries may occur due to the consolidation of medical institutions. In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the crash deliveries experienced at our hospital during the 6-year period from 2015 to 2020.

The total number of deliveries during this period was 3,678, of which 16(0.44%)were precipitate deliveries. The median distance from home to our hospital was 28.5 km. There were 1 primipara and 15 multiparas, and 3 previous precipitate deliveries, 2 previous threatened premature deliveries, and 1 premature delivery were noted. The median time from delivery to arrival at our hospital was 11.5 minutes. One baby was stillborn due to fetal abnormality, 5 had hypothermia, 4 had respiratory disturbance, 3 had polycythemia, and 4 babies received phototherapy for jaundice.

As a result, precipitate deliveries occurred in a variety of situations. It is important not to increase the number of crashed deliveries or to reduce the complications of crashed deliveries by understanding the risk of precipitate deliveries before delivery, providing appropriate guidance, giving appropriate instructions when a precipitate delivery is imminent, and instructing pregnant women and emergency crews on what to do when a precipitate delivery occurs.
