説明

The purpose of this study was to examine relations among narcissism, self-esteem, and social desirability. The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) revised by Ohishi et al. (1987), the Self-Esteem Scale (SE-S), the MMPI-L Scale, the MMPI-K Scale, and Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (MCSD) were administered to 192 subjects (mean age 20.6 years). A factor analysis of the NPI revealed three significant factors which were labeled "sense of superiority and competence, " "need for attention and praise, " and "self-assertion." As a result of a factor analysis on the SE-S, two significant factors were revealed : "active self-esteem (A-S)" and "passive self-esteem (P-S)." The NPI showed significant, positive correlations with SE-S, A-S, and P-S, and significant negative correlations with MMPI-L, MMPI-K, and MCSD. The "sense of superiority and competence" factor showed significant positive correlations with SE-S, A-S, and P-S. The "need for attention and praise" factor showed a significant, positive correlation with S-A, and significant negative correlations with MMPI-L, MMPI-K, and MCSD. The "self-assertion" factor showed significant positive correlations with SE-S, A-S, and P-S. Implications of these findings were discussed.
