説明

type:P(論文)

Gnosticism is a general term of various denominations which appeared in Palestine and Syria, namely the East of the Mediterranean Sea in the half of the first century. Gnosis (γνωσι〓) means knowledge in Greek, and it is the character of this religion to regard knowledge as the most important means or the form of salvation. The Christian church excluded Gnosticism as a heresy. But by the exclusion Christianity missed an important motif, "the hidden God" which could be found in Gnosticism. Gnosticism rested on the ethos of ancient nihilism. Modern Christian theology seems to place the problem of nihilism as what was already resolved. But when we look at the contemporary current of nihilism, we find that such a view is very optimistic one. The modern thought has not yet conquer nihilism. Christian church should take this problem more seriously and begin the preaching in order to break nihilism. Gnosticism can indicate the available clues for the problem.
