The purpose of this paper is to explore the development and the education of an infant in our current disintegrating society. Presently both our way of raising children and our school system are in a tight corner. Often parents and teachers feel helpless and try to find a new view of child rearing and new skills as an effective action. Many parents know that the strict autocratic ways which use power, pressure, competition and a threat of punishment are not useful anymore in a democracy. Children today do not accept the traditional approach. They reject the disciplines, ideas and values of adults. But parents and teachers have not been trained to teach the skills of living in the democratic relationship of equals. We must learn new forms of dealing with each other based on the principles of freedom and responsibility. Adlerian psychology suggests the fundamental premises on which we should operate and shows the personality structure which enables us to live as free democratic men. The method which it suggests for the solution of problems which our children present at home and at school seems to be indeed effective.
