Abstract
Sixteen rhodonites from Japan were chemically analyzed and examined by the X-ray diffractometer. The chemical characteristics were discussed together with pyroxmangite in special referring to their calcium contents. The differences among angles of some powder reflections vary with the calcium contents of rhodonite. By the heating at 1000℃ in air for 1hour, the patterns of calcium-rich rhodonites become very similar to those of the calcium-poor rhodonites. The heated product at 1200℃ in air for 1hour being bustamite, also was discussed in comparison with some other manganese silicates. A large number of rhodonites from Japan examined by the X-ray powder method with the result that the specimens from the replacement ores are rich in calcium on the contrary that those from the contact metamorphic ores are poor. This difrerencies correlated to the contact metamorphism of the manganese ores.
