Abstract

This paper discusses problems of Japanese language teaching in China, detected by the treatment of Japanese sentence final particles Yo, Ne and Yone. The data has been gathered through a survey and an analysis of conversations between Chinese students at Dalian Foreign Language University. The survey shows that Chinese students are keen to improve their ability to use Japanese effectively. However, they have no option but to follow the instructions in a textbook which poorly describes the uses of the articles because there are only a few conversation classes. The analysis of conversations shows that they have not mastered the actual use of the particles yet. This result strongly suggests the need to teach Japanese in a communicative method.
