Abstract

We have thought about sadism and masochism as a single unit. At the same time, we can fi nd studies that argue they are independent concepts. In this article, we study Georges Bataille’s reading of sadism. We have to refer to the thought of masochism by Leo Bersani and Gilles Deleuze. Bataille’s reading explains the severance of the unit of sadism-masochism and the desire of subject and object. Bataille’s explanations are special insofar as they relate to violence and eroticism in human beings.
