Let j be the oxygen evolution at anode, m be the escape of CL_2, and n be the escape of HClO in chlorate cell; j, m, and n being expressed with current efficiency. It is desirable to make j + m + n as small as possible, keeping m + n smaller than a certain permitted limit. There are two ways to consider to realize this desire. (1) PH of the solution near the anode should be made as small as possible to make j small and pH of the upper part of the bulk of the bath should be made as large as possible to make m + n small (by proper cell construction, etc.). (2) The composition of the bath and the conditions of the electrolysis, under the assumption that the bath is homogeneous and the electrolysis is in steady state, should be appropriately selected so as to make j + m + n small keeping m + n smaller than the limit. The second way is fully discussed, the well-known Foerster's theory of chlorate formation and Knibbsbs' proposition being taken as the principal bases of the discussion. C_Cl^-, C_HCl0, C_Cl^- + C_HClO + C_ClO^- + C_ClO3^- (C means the concentration in steady state), current density, reciprocal of current concentration, and temperature are adopted as variables, and the effects of the m on j, m, and n are investigated somewhat mathematically.

筆者はクロレート槽の塩素逸散を減ずる方策を講じようとするものであるが,その際なるべく酸化の効率を落さぬように配慮するを要する。これは見方を変えればなるべく塩素逸散を増さずに酸化の効率を増す配慮とも言えよう。これに関して考察を行った。
