Abstract

The purpose of this research is promoting the understandings of the complex dynamics of the emergence of discrimination in contemporary Japan, specifically by focusing on the local resident opposition against the construction of a Korean school in a “buraku area,” whose residents are categorized as Japanese outcasts. This research reveals several factors behind the incident, and those findings attest to the importance to grasp the discrimination from a relational and structural perspective.
