Description

SEEDS Program provides experience-based-learning opportunities to high school students at the state-of-art facilities of Osaka University. We foster the next generation of visionary leaders in science and engineering, which we called them the “buds of science” and the “hidden-gem seeds”. In the first year program, we focus on broadening their scientific viewpoints by a variety of university-level lectures. After attending the lecture, the group discussion of a small number of people, so-called “Mebae-dojo”, are carried out. Students will actively discuss the lecture content and comfortably share one’s ideas to each other. Subsequently, we found that the students not only gradually accept the diversification of ideas, but also develop their critical thinking ability with clear objectives in learning science and engineering more than we expected. In the second year, under the direct guidance of university faculty members, the students conduct intensive scientific research, make a presentation of their research results to the public, and realize the sensation of advanced research. As a result, we achieve a certain level of success that SEEDS students have found a great favor eagerly learning scientific and technological subjects by themselves and a profound change in attitude towards studying at high school. Finally, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of SEEDS Program from various viewpoints to establish another foundation which leads to the discovery of young talents in the field of science and engineering research to the world.
