Description

研究成果の概要 (英文) : The purpose of this paper is to examine the roles of third places in regional activation. Third places are places outside the workplace and thehome. These places are further described as goodplaces. Third places can be an integral part ofregional activation, especially for women who have been on a career break. This is because third places can provide them with their firstopportunities for regional activation. The research questions in this paper are as follows:RQ1 How were the third places that have continuity established? RQ2 What are the roles of the third places that have continuity? RQ3 What are the effects of the third places that have continuity? This paper selects two third places and introduces their histories, roles, and effects. The major findings are as follows: 1) The founders of the third places have a sense of ownership and work together with various local stakeholders. 2) The third places function as the hub of the local communities' networks. This is because the third places are open to diverse people in local communities. 3) The third places have the effect, especially for women, of initiating interest in regional activities and improving their self-efficacy. On the basis of these findings, it is suggested that we should understand the importance of cooperation with local stakeholders to create the continuous and effective third places that function as the hub of local communities.
