Abstract

Recently, the discussion how to understand Adam Smith's economics has proceeded in connection with Smith's moral philosophy. For all these discussion, it is difficult to say that we have enough progress in our understanding of Smith's theoretical system of economics as a whole. This paper concerned Smith's capital investment theory. I will state my opinion by criticizing Tajima Keigo who tells that specific ethical behavior of people make the natural order of investment. Moreover, Tazima says it is peculiar to the early capitalism of Britain. I am opposite to this Tajima's understandings. I will suggest that Smith's investment theory is based on a more general principle of self-interest and can be applied also at the present age.
