Psychological effects of light exercise were evaluated in healthy elderly, middle aged women and elderly with borderline hypertension. The exercises were walking and stretching for healthy elderly, elderly with hypertension and playing beginner's tennis for healty middle aged women. The subjects took exercise three hours a day, twice a week during three months period. Psychometric test battery was used Yatabe-Guilford Personality Inventry (Y-G test). The Y-G test reveald that emotional stability of subjects was increased after three months light exercises. Anxiety level evaluated by MAS decreased in elderly with borderline hypertension who showed relatively high score compared with other two groups on the pre-exercise test. MPI revealed that a decrease of neuroticism and a increare of extraversion in healthy elderly and in healthy middle aged women. The healthy elderly became more accepted themselves, on a view point of self-actualization, elderly with borderline hypertension got a way of positive lives and healthy middle aged women became more active and genuine. We concluded that training of light exercises, even in short period, may alter subject's feeling and may increare emotional stability for middle aged and elderly.
