Description

This study examined the relation between negative self-awareness in interpersonal relationship (NSAIR), self esteem, and the differences of reaction to the negative evaluation by others. Comparison of these factors were made between high and low NSAIR subjects. The results showed high and negative correlation between the Anthrophobic Tendency Scale (Horil & Ogawa) for measuring NSAIR and self esteem scale (Janis & Field). The comparison was made between high and low NSAIR subjects regarding the reaction to negative evaluation by others appeared on the sketch method. The comparison showed differences in the reaction to the evaluation from the same sex subject. Then, for further understanding descriptions of 20 high NSAIR subjects and 31 low subjects were selected. The reselts showed that subjects in low NSAIR tend to maintain their mental balance by taking a distance from such an evaluation or by devaluating the person. On the other hand, subjects in high NSAIR tend to recognize the evaluation excessively without protecting themselves from being hurt and. thus, recognize nagative influence.
