Recently, the relationship between psychological, especially social psychological variables in sport settings and daily life has often been discussed in sport psychological literature. In this study, the relations of competitive social skills and individual and social orientations in sport with prosocial behavior in daily life were investigated. Two hundred and twenty-seven college students (158 men and 69 women) were administered a questionnaire including a competitive social skills scale (Sugiyama, 2001), an individual and social orientations in sport scale (Isogai et al, 2000), and a prosocial behavior scale for students (Kikuchi, 1988). Analyses of variance and multiple regression analyses indicated that 1) students with higher encoding skill and/or with higher decoding skill in competition showed more prosocial behavior in daily life, while male students with lower self-control skill and female students with higher self-control skill in social interaction showed more prosocial behavior, 2) students with higher individual orientation and/or with higher social orientation in sport showed more prosocial behavior, and 3) there were sex differences in the relations of the competitive social skills and the individual and social orientations with the prosocial behavior.
