Description
The purpose of this study is to provide an overview on the relationships between daughters and their fathers in Japan. The main contents are as follows: (1) The father-daughter interaction is significantly important to daughters. The father-daughter relationships have great impacts to daughters from the aspect of their personal development and their fathers' affection to them, which is their psychological support. (2) In Japan fathers are tenderly affectionate for their daughters. The affection is like mothers', but it is more distant than mothers'. The affection is like “eyes watching from distance”. (3) Daughters' father-image is partly influenced by their parents' relationships and their mothers behavior to their fathers. Fathers as “Daikokubashira”(central persons in their families) make fathers' attraction for their daughters higher.
