Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the oral administration of vitamin and mineral (VM) product on the reproduction performance of Japanese black heifers raised in pasture for all seasons. A commercially obtainable VM containing product (50g) was mixed with wheat bran (450g) and fed once daily. VM administration for 7 heifers that had not conceived by 4.3 services of artificial insemination (AI) after the last parturition resulted them to become pregnant by another 2.1 AI services. The other group of 4 heifers that received VM administration from the time of weaning became pregnant by 2.2 AI. The effect was generally seemed to be soon, because four out of 7 heifers in the former group and three out of 4 in the latter group conceived by the first AI service after VM administration. From these results, it is suggested that the VM product is effective to improve reproduction performance by shortening the interval to conception after parturition in Japanese black heifers raised in pasture for all seasons.
