The object of this article is to prove the close relation of the erroneous view on Japan (倭) in Hou-han-shu-wo-ch'uan 後漢書倭伝 to the difficulty of reading correctly the original sentences and phrases of Wei-chih-wo-jên-ch'uan 魏志倭人伝, notwithstanding the former book has been emphasized as a cardinal resource for the study of ancient Japan (倭) beside Wei-lüo 魏略 and Wei-chih 魏志, and to explain the traditional interpretations are wrong in the fundamental points, and then to offer the new interpretation faithful to the original sentences and phrases of the Wo-jên-ch'uan 倭人伝. The most important part of our opinions is the new reading of the words ｢自女王国以北｣, "northern district outside of the Queen State." The weak point of the former study is lack of normal recognition about what form was used by the Wo-jên-ch'uan of writing the number of houses and distances and what legal principle was taken by it of writing the Japan's formation. This ancient Japan (倭) was not a single kingdom, but a federation.
