Abstract

In the currents of the Chinese civilization, the Yang-shao 仰韶 culture is the important current from which it took its very rise. With the rapid development of the archaeological investigation after the Emancipation, immense ruins were discovered and it is proved that there exist two cultural types of Miao-ti-kou 廟底溝 and Pan-p'o 半坡 in the Yang-shao culture in the midland, which have been discussed in their priority and cultural character, though only two ruins of Miao-ti-kou and Pan-p'o bring the published formal report to us who have too small materials to join the discussion. Su-Ping-ch'i's 蘇秉琦 monograph recently published also has no material as well. But his method of chronology and study for the social stages is valuable with its scientific contents. This article is to examine some problems about the Yang-shao culture in main reference to "Su-monograph" 蘇論文 with some important monographs recently published, and leads to Chinese archaeologists' passion to "inquiry of primitive society" in their effort to study the problems.
