The boundary between society and hospital represents complexity that both functional and symbolic meanings intertwine and influence hospital users. Functional role is primary expressed through issues of easy wayfinding, efficiency, sustainability, safety and control. Symbolic meanings and sensorial qualities characteristic for this zone are, however, addressing the need for more subtle themes like wellbeing, hope, phantasmagoria, etc. In this article, this kind of boundary is defined as "Hospital Edge". Hospital Edge represents, a strategic zone for further refinement of the idea of healing spaces, repository of sustainable design elements and polygon for environmentally conscious approach to hospital design, potentially powerful urban escape node, buffer zone for urban space. To melt the Hospital Edge, 3 ideas, disslving the building type, affirnity to social and nature, restrucring of commonspace, are incarnated on the the project of "Ogata Gastroenterology Clinic".
