[ABSTRACT] This essay aims to put information on Pandawani in order the first, outline the figure of Pandawani the second and point out questions for further coming field research the last. Pandawani which means the narratives of the Pandavas - the heroes in Mahabharata, is a folk entertainment in Chhattisgarhi dialect of Hindi language, found in mostly Chhattisgarh State in India. It has been performed by originally the Pardhan and the Dewar tribes who have a tradition to play Pandawani hereditarily, then by other non hereditary people in the region for a long time. There are three types of performing style in Pandawani, 1) the original form performed by Pardhans and Dewars who are the founders of Pandawani, 2) the Kapalik style then 3) the Vedamati style. 1) is a style of sole performance with singing and playing a simple tribal musical instrument alone. 2) and 3) both have a lead singer of man or woman, a co-singer with the accompaniment in the Indian music. The popularity of Pandawani seems to be established over Chhattisgarh areas for last forty years as a stage entertainment of narratives of Mahabharata. In any occasions they can arrange the Pandawani entertainment for public or private. Among from popular stories of Mahabharata, Pandawani group select some stories on demand and play for audience. Fortunately we had an opportunity to meet with Dr.Teejan Bai, a leading female singer in Kapalik style who came to be awarded the Fukuoka Prize 2018 Arts and Culture Prize in Fukuoka. From an interview with her and her accompany, luckily some of questions were cleared and I could write a little bit of them although a lot of questions are still left. I need do field research on this theme in their homeland of Chhattisgarh State in India near future.
