Abstract

This paper summarizes the activities of Kyoto University's Multicultural Educational Short-term Study Abroad Program based on Inter-University Agreements during the ten-year period (2010-2019) and reports on its achievements and future challenges. Students in the program study at partner universities for a period of two to four weeks (to date all partners have been in East Asia and Southeast Asia). The students (1) attend collaborative seminars and learning with the local students, (2) learn local languages, and (3) participate in lectures, field study, and cultural experiences offered by the affiliated universities. During the ten-year period, we have continuously made improvements to the program with the aim of achieving high-level educational outcomes. Through these improvements, we have developed unique content and systems, including preparatory language learning with international students of our university, collaborative learning with local students of the partner university, and health care support and crisis management systems managed in cooperation with local faculty members who understand our university's education. This paper also outlines future improvements that can enhance the quality of the program and the efficiency of its administration, such as the accreditation of credits and the construction of an administration system.
