Description
Affirmative action aims to attain an authentic equal opportunity in the society as a whole, by positively taking measures in favor of those who have suffered from social or structural discrimination in the past. However, today, in the United States, where this concept was originally constructed, there has been increasing denunciation that censures affirmative action as “reverse discrimination” or “un-meritocratic”. This paper examines that affirmative action, which primarily aims to achieve “equal opportunity”, can work as compelling means to accomplish a genuine “meritocracy”.
