Description

The goal of this paper is to review several main issues proposed by the study of rituals in modern anthropology, and reconsider them in relation to communication. The study of ritual in anthropology has been fundamentally influenced by Durkheim's ideas on "solidarity" and "the sacred." Starting with the review of how these concepts have been captured by the main traditions of anthropology, the present discussion highlights the significance of these notions in both areas of collective and face-to-face commjunication.
