Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study in Fr. Schleiermacher's understanding of 'the divine-human' nature in the person of Jesus Christ. In the present study, I have attempted to deal with Schleiermacher's texts analytically. In conclusion, it is necessary to appreciate that Schleiermacher has understood Jesus Christ as 'the true God and the true Man'(vere Deus et vere homo). Therefore we have to conclude that Schleiermacher understood 'the divine-human' nature in the person of Jesus Christ, not by the methodology of 'from below' or 'from above', but by his view of this simultaneous dual existence. In this respect, we can say that Schleiermacher's understanding of Jesus Christ is based on his methodology of 'the mystical tension-unity'(mystische Spannung-Einheit).
