本稿が研究対象とする大阪市阿倍野地区は, 戦前の郊外開発によって形成された郊外住宅地である。当時の中流階級に好まれた意匠を凝らした近代長屋群が大量に建設され, 現在でもその多くが残存している。本稿ではまず, 大正末期から昭和初期にかけて, どのような社会的背景と都市政策の中で当該地区に長屋群が建設されるに至ったのか明らかにする。次に, 大阪市の現代都市政策の中で阿倍野地区の空間形成がどのように方向づけられているのかについて, 密集市街地整備施策, HOPEゾーン事業との関連で論じる。さらに, 建築家・職人・地元住民で構成された「ASSUの会」の活動を取り上げ検討する。……

My purpose here is to provide a case study of urban regeneration with special focus on the activities of the local association and the relationship with urban policies. I take Abeno in Osaka as the study area. It is a residential area which was shaped by suburban development in the 1920's. Many tenement houses with sophisticated design were constructed there and the target was people in the middle-class. In this study, we analyze the activities of "ASSU no Kai": An association which considers the traditional Japanese tenement houses as a regional resource and tries to utilize them for suitable urban regeneration in Abeno. This analysis will clarify the process whereby they shape their network and the effects of their activities. ......
