Abstract

本報告は、大阪市立大学看護学研究科・医学部における第4回FD研修会において筆者が行った発表について報告するものである。「看護英語」のシラバスにも示されているとおり、この科目では看護にかかわる実用的なコミュニケーション能力の育成を目指しているが、ESP(特定目的の英語)に偏りすぎるあまり、言葉の本質について教えることを忘れてはならないと筆者は考える。そこで、第1回の授業では、大岡信氏のエッセーと、サミュエル・スマイルズの『自助論』からの一節を読むことにしている。このような試みにより、語学学習の動機付けを行っている。

This is a report on the Fourth Faculty Development Workshop, Osaka City University Graduate School and School of Nursing. The author was the lecturer of the workshop, where the course of Nursing English was presented and discussed by the teaching staff of the university. As the syllabus of Nursing English shows, oral communication at a hospital is the main course subject in the class. However, students should understand the importance of language through which we can communicate with each other. To emphasize that, the author picks up an essay “Power of Language” by Makoto Ohoka and a passage from Samuel Smiles' Self Help as the first teaching materials on starting Nursing English course. They are effective in reminding both students and teachers of the importance of language learning.
