「間(ま)」は,日本の芸事,作法,舞踊,話し言葉,音楽など,複数の領域で用いられてきた概念の一つである。しかし,「間」概念がそのように広く日本文化を横断して使われてきたことは,逆に,音楽における「間」の意味をぼやけさせてきたきらいがある。本稿では浪曲(浪花節(なにわぶし))の三味線において「間」の語がどのように使われているかを検討する作業を通して,精神的かつ「日本独特」だと見なされがちな「間」概念が日本音楽においてもつ,実体としての意味を明確にする。

The purpose of this paper is to examine 'ma' concept in Japanese music.'Ma', literally means space, is a crucial concept for actors, dancers, performers and musicians in Japanese culture and has been considered as a unique aesthetics of Japan. The present paper deals with the usage of 'ma' at shiamisen playing in rōkyoku. The results show that 'ma' is not spiritualistic concept but refers actual musical aspects such as rhythm, timing an beat.
