小学生,中学生,高校生さらに教員を目指す大学生に「生」と「死」に関するアンケート調査を行った。その結果,小学校時代や中学校時代の自然体験や動物の飼育体験が生命意識を深めることにかかわりがあることが確かめられ,特に,人や動物の「死」に遭遇する体験が最も重要であることが分かった。教科指導においても「死」に関する体験を伴った指導を一層重視することにより,生命尊重の育成が図られることが明らかになった。

The questionnaire regarding the concepts of “Life" and “Death" was conducted on students in elementary, junior high, senior high school and university of teacher education. Results showed us that keeping pets and the opportunities to spend time outdoors with nature during their elementary and junior high school years might possibly deepen their appreciation for the concept of life. Particularly, witnessing the death of pets and loved ones had the deepest impact. For teaching science, it may suggest that placing more emphasis on understanding the concept of death through experience, may allow students to better appreciate the concept of life.
