What are the movies ? The “movies” invented in the latter half of the 19th century have brought about the classic image of “the movies” for more than 100 years. The “movies” changed drastically in the 21century, and are diversifying. Under these circumstances, the movies have been largely divided into fiction and non-fiction since the classic movies times. This essay tries to explore the possibilities of the movies in the future while being skeptical of the dichotomy of fiction and non-fiction. The purpose of this essay is to juxtapose the movies with a kind of journalism movement and to prepare for the discussion on social construction of community and a journalist perspective and the potential of the movies.
