本稿では、沖縄県におけるスキューバ・ダイビングの歴史と発展を取り上げる。スキューバ・ダイビングは、海洋レクリエーションとして、一般的に知られるようになっている。まずは、日本におけるダイビングの普及の歴史に焦点を当て、その経緯を考察する。そして、フィールドとしている座間味村におけるダイビング・ショップの歴史を記述する。特に、沖縄県初と言われる座間味村へのスキューバ・ダイビングの導入の時期とその過程を、筆者が行ったインタビュー調査によって明らかにし、ダイビング産業の発展を記述し、解決すべき課題を提示する。@@@This paper takes up the history and the development of scuba diving in Okinawa. Scuba diving is generally known as a marine recreation. This paper focuses on the history of the popularization of scuba diving in Japan and considers the process of popularization. The history of a diving shop in Zamami-village is described based on the authors fieldwork. Specifically, the time and processof the introduction of scuba diving into Zamami-village said to be the first in Okinawa were investigatedthrough interviews. The development of the dive industry described, and problems in need of solytions are identified.
