説明

UNESCO published the report "Learning: The Treasure Within "to rebuild education in the 21st century. This report presents the essence of education as four pillars of learning: Learning to know, Learning to do, Learning to live together, and Learning to be. However, as the concept developed through DESD, the fifth pillar, "Learning to transform oneself and society ", was included. It was also used in international declaration statements as expressed in the Aichi-Nagoya Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development. This paper focuses on transformative learning in ESD. The field of this study is "Second Life " in Sri Lanka. Second Life enables learners to transform themselves and their communities, through the process of recycling waste materials, which is a social problem widely seen throughout Sri Lanka, into a new product. It is the purpose of this paper to clarify how learning is realized using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach. The survey found that the deepening of the inner world of individuals and the connection with others are important for the process of transformation.
