Abstract

Residents need to consider both evacuation behaviors and the appropriate evacuation route considering traffic jams during disasters for disaster mitigation. In this study, we develop a game application called “Disaster Prevention Sugoroku” that enables users to learn about traffic jams and evacuation routes during disasters. In this game, users can learn how to change the evacuation route and evacuation method due to heavy rain, fire spread, and traffic jam, while moving from a random starting point to an evacuation place. Furthermore, groups compete with other groups for points of the game, and quizzes related to disaster prevention are implemented to improve the playability of the game for increasing motivation of disaster prevention education learning. In addition, disaster VR content is used to simulate the experience of a disaster and to reduce the familiarity with games. We conduct disaster prevention education using the game to evaluate itself. The result shows the learning effect of disaster prevention education by the game and clarifies the issues of the game.
