Abstract

An exponent calculated from a numerical value [(volume of monocyte × volume of SD of lymphocytes SD) / 100 (Cut-off value of 3.7 or more)] of cell population data of an automated blood cell measuring device Unicel Dx H 800 of Beckman Coulter, We call it Malaria Factor (MF). Malaria is one of the most important infectious diseases worldwide and often uses a morphological diagnosis method to prepare a blood smear specimen and check it with an optical microscope for confirmation of diagnosis. In this case, the authors conducted (1) histogram abnormality, examination of scattering · plot abnormality, (2) morphological treatment effect judgment by optical microscope and comparison of MF. This measurement result shows the same waveform and plot as other malaria infections in other report cases, and MF correlated with the number of malaria parasites that can be visually confirmed in the clinical course. MF is considered to be a useful index in malaria infection treatment judgment.
