Abstract

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the length hospital stay of elderly patients with pneumonia who underwent rehabilitation. [Participants and Methods] A total of 192 patients aged 65 years or older hospitalized for pneumonia at our hospital who underwent rehabilitation were classified into two groups: short-term and long-term hospitalization groups, and the factors affecting the length of stay were examined. [Results] The number of days until the start of rehabilitation and the Barthel Index (BI) at the start of rehabilitation were identified as factors influencing the length of stay. [Conclusion] The results suggest that early rehabilitation after hospitalization and a high BI at the start of rehabilitation were associated with a shorter hospital stay.
