本稿では, 漫画家手塚治虫を育てた, 家庭・地域・教育について考察することを通じて, 近代日本の文化と教育の, ある一つの, 重要なルーツについて明かにしたい。漫画家手塚治虫は, 大阪北部近郊地域で生まれ, 育った。この地域は, 阪急沿線地域とも呼ばれ, わが国の戦前期において, 最も早い時期に新中間層が住んだ地域であった。この地域の特徴の多くは, 阪急電鉄の経営者, 小林一三によって産み出されたものである。手塚の家庭は, 戦前期の典型的な新中間層であった。そして, 彼の通った大阪府池田師範附属小学校は, この地域の新中間層の子弟が多く通った学校であった。後年の手塚の作品は, この地域の文化に多くの影響を受けていると考えられる。

This paper tries to search for important roots of modern Japanese culture and education, taking account of the area, the home and the education by which the famous Japanese cartoonist, Osamu Tezuka was brought up. Tezuka was born and raised in the northern outskirts of Osaka. This area was called the Hankyu railway strips, where new middle classes began to inhabit earlier than any other places in the period of pre-war Japan. Most features of this living area were intentionally formed by the founder of Hankyu railway company, Ichizo Kobayashi. The Tezukas was one of the typical new middle-class families in the pre-war Japan, and he studied at the elementary school attached to Osaka prefecture normal school at Ikeda, where a lot of middle-class children from the area attended. Tezuka's later works were considered to be much influenced by the culture of this region.
