A Study on Development of a Device Increasing the Transmission Ratio Coverage of the TractionCVT Consisted with Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Abstract

<p>This report describes the way to increase transmission ratio coverage for the Traction-CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) consisted with cylindrical roller bearings. Traction-CVT is known as quiet, shockless transmission. However, its complexity, purity of materials, and high cost are a part of the problem. In this research, we suggest the simple and inexpensive traction-CVT by making use of good surface condition of the common bearings. The problem in prior machine was its small transmission ratio coverage. Therefore, we get the outer ring and inner ring from different bearings so that the machine can get the larger transmission ratio. The following results were obtained. (1) The transmission ratio coverage achieved its design value; 2.50, by using the outer and inner rings prepared from different sized bearings. (2) The power transmission efficiency was 78~89% when loaded 10 Nm, is increased approximately 16% from the former machine. (3) This Traction-CVT transmitted approximately 15 Nm. This lower torque transmission limit than design value is considered due to rollers’ tilting from the orbital direction, or insufficient surface pressure. To solve this problem, increasing the roller width for control its tilting, and increasing the interference for increase the preload are considered to be effective.</p>
