- Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase No.2 and the 1912 Exposició d’Art Cubista in Barcelona
抄録
Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase No.2 first exhibited at the 1912 Exposició d'Art Cubista in Barcelona between the 1912 Salon des Indépendants of Paris and the famous 1913 Armory Show in America. This fact, however, is little known even in the realm of the Duchamp studies, because Duchamp once said in an interview that there wasn’t much response to his No.2. Is that truth? Is that all about this event? Fortunately, a few cubism studies since 1990’s have revealed that No.2 caused the great criticism among nationalist critics such as Eugeni d'Ors, who claimed a Catalan national cultural identity, Noucentisme, and that the Noucentista critics also resonated with neo-classicism of French Cubist painters and critics. Based on these studies, this research focuses on the Exposició d'Art Cubista and examines the meaning of Duchamp's nude for the Cubist discourse and their paintings around 1910-12 in Barcelona and Paris.
