Abstract

There are few case reports of traumatic lumbar hernia and no specific treatment approach has been determined. We report a case of traumatic lumbar hernia due to seatbelt injury that was repaired using ultrasonography. A woman in her 40s was injured in a traffic accident. However, her vital signs were stable on arrival, although she had wounds caused by the seatbelt. Abdominal computed tomography demonstrated right inferior lumbar hernia. We repaired the hernia using an anterior approach during elective surgery after discharge. On day 8 after surgery, the patient was discharged. No signs of recurrence have been noted for a year. In such cases, surgical indications and timing should be decided while considering the presence of abdominal organ damage, risk of complications, and size of the hernia orifice.
