Description

This study investigated time tracking as a method for improving lifestyle habits, with a special focus on a timetracking tool for the elderly. First, we reviewed case studies of time-tracking surveys conducted in the public and private sectors in Japan and overseas in order to clarify the categories and methods used. Next, we identified the functions of time-tracking apps for personal health management. We also interviewed elderly people about their concerns and what they kept track of in their daily lives in order to clarify the recording media and categories they used. Based on the results, we determined the requirements and developed a prototype time-tracking tool for the elderly. We asked elderly volunteers to use the tool and evaluated changes in their awareness of lifestyle habits by administering a questionnaire before and after they used the tool. A significant improvement was observed in half of the participants, suggesting that this tool might be used to improve lifestyle habits in elderly people.
