Description

A series of star-shaped polylactides end-functionalized with coumarin groups (x-star-PDLLA (C)) was successfully synthesized by a ring-opening polymerization of DL-lactide with trimethylolethane (x = 3), pentaerythritol (x = 4), and dipentaerythritol (x = 6) as an initiator, followed by a Mitsunobu reaction with 4-methylumbelliferone to obtain the corresponding three-armed (3-star-PDLLA (C)), four-armed (4-star-PDLLA(C)), and six-armed star-shaped polylactide (6-star-PDLLA(C)), respectively. The resulting star-shaped polymers were then applied for the reversible cross-linking reaction by the alternating UV (365 nm) / UV (254 nm) irradiation. It was suggested that glass transition temperatures of the resulting polymers depend on their number of arms and arm lengths.
