児童の"能動的な学び"をみるための前段階として, 第6学年の児童を対象に, 理科の自由研究を1学期に経験させた後, 夏季休業中にした理科の自由研究について差異がみられるかを検討した。その結果, 前回の調査では,教師の支援・援助がない状態で自由研究をした児童は, 全体の約1割であったが, 今回は全体の約2割の児童が自由研究をしたことがわかった。また, 自由研究を行った児童の内で, 自発的にした児童は7割であった。さらに, 前回と同様, 自由研究をした児童は, 自己評価も肯定的傾向にあることが示された。

In order to obtain an information on the pupils' active learning attitude the responses for the inquiries concerning the pupils' free-hand assignments of the science lesson of the summer vacation in the sixth grade of three elementary schools have been examined, successively the first term classes in 2000. From the analysis of the inquiries almost all pupils more than 80 percents of total examinees of 192 pupils, withoput teachers' supports or encouragements, did not show marked interest in accomplishment of their free-hand assignments of science lesson. It has been found that about twenty percents of total pupils, which is about two times greater than that observed in the previous report, have been able to accomplish their free-hand assignments. Only 70 percents of pupils have accomplished their free hand assignments have done the assignments voluntarily. Pupils' characteristics for active learning attitude were revealed that pupils had volantarily accomplished their free-hand assignments have shown affirmative responses to impose self evaluation in science lesson on themselves. It is also confirmed that this affirmative responses of the sixth grade pupils as to self evaluation is similar to those obtained for the fifth grade pupils in the previous survey-report (V) in 1999.
