Abstract
<p>Sensitivity-based optimal damper placement method of high damping rubber dampers for high-rise buildings is proposed. For practical design, the influence of supporting member of column-type damper is considered in the optimization procedure. A structural analysis software, SNAP® (Kozo system) that is generally used in practical structural design, is collaborated with the optimization algorithm by using the batch excitation option. The target building structure is a plane frame model to minimize the maximum inter-story drifts in recorded ground motions. The validity of the proposed method is investigated by comparing the results with design solutions derived by genetic algorithms.</p>
