Abstract

PURPOSE: To describe the experience of patients with malignant lymphoma undergoing chemotherapy at home from their own viewpoint. METHOD: We had them talk freely about how they thought about experience to live with a malignant lymphoma. We analyzed their talk qualitatively. RESULTS: The malignant lymphoma patients had an experience as follows: Although they were under the threat of suffering from the disease, they would make every effort not to yield to the threat. By doing so, they were able to accumulate experiences supported by people around them to realize that they were not alone. With the experience they would begin to get on their feet and they could regain the control of life. Because the uneasiness to live holding a malignancy would not fade away, they still felt loneliness that they could not truly share the suffering with other people. However, by obtaining power from having regained the control of life, they acquired their spiritual growth and fulfilling life along with thankfulness and their peace of mind.
