Abstract

Under a new program for research program for advanced climate change projections, we are working to 1) develop a projection system for climate change in Japan and elucidate its mechanism; 2) development of climate change projection information that contributes to the promotion of regional and basin-specific adaptation measures; and 3) production of highly reliable climate projection datasets for vulnerable regions in other countries. Research that forms the basis for these research objectives has been conducted under the “the Study Program for Greater Sophistication of Integrated Climate Model”. Examples of the results of this research are the Time Sequential Experiments with Coupled model (TSE-C), which can represent the atmosphere-ocean interaction, and event attribution, which can clarify whether the recent increase in flooding is due to past warming or other factors. Event attribution is used to determine whether the recent increase in flooding is due to global warming or other factors.
