Abstract
<p>Purpose: The purpose of this study is to clarify the mediating effect of nurses’ perceptions of head nurse leadership on the relationship between nurses’ work engagement and head nurse’s self-efficacy.</p><p>Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted on the head nurse and nursing staff in 16 medical institutions regarding work engagement of nursing staff and self-efficacy and leadership of head nurses. A multilevel mediation analysis was conducted on 269 nursing staff members.</p><p>Results: It was found that nurses’ perceptions of the head nurse’s leadership were fully mediated by the head nurse’s self-efficacy and staff nurses’ work engagement. It was suggested that the mediating effect of the perception of leadership on the head nurse’s self-efficacy and nurses’ work engagement was an individual level effect.</p><p>Conclusion: It was found that nursing staff’s perception of the head nurse’s leadership was fully mediated by the head nurse’s self-efficacy and nursing staff’s work engagement.</p>
