Abstract

This paper proposes a compact microstrip transversal-coupling reconfigurable filter that can change the frequency selectivity of bandpass filter (BPF), and can also provide an all-stop response. In conventional reconfigurable filters, additional resonators are required to control transmission zeros, which leads to a complicated and large structure. The proposed filter, which is simply realized with the parallel arrangement of even/odd-mode half-wavelength resonators, reconfigure its transfer function by directly adjusting resonant frequencies and external Q factors with electrical controls using varactor diodes loaded on resonators. The prototype filter achieves a center frequency tuning of 1.13-1.69 GHz, 3-dB fractional bandwidth control of 5.3-17.3%, and two highly adjustable transmission zeros at one side or both sides of passband as a BPF, and offers a switch from a bandpass response to an all-stop response. The effectiveness of the proposed structure is proven by the comparison of frequency responses between EM-simulated and measured results.
