Description
Patient Experience (PX) is a concept that refers to the patient's specific "experience" of health care services, and as an evolution of Patient Satisfaction (PS), it is positioned as an internationally important health care quality indicator. Evidence has accumulated that PX is associated with technical quality indicators, as well as with patient behaviors such as adherence, self-management, and health care utilization. Compared to other countries where government agencies have taken the initiative in promoting the use of PX, Japan has lagged far behind in its efforts to evaluate PX, but in recent years, development of PX measures and empirical studies using PX have been gaining momentum in Japan. In order to improve the quality of health care, Japan needs to promote the evaluation and utilization of PX in a wide range of areas, including clinical practice, education, and research.
