Abstract
This study proposed the possibility of using the K-code, a method of learning kanji components developed by Taha (2020), as an effective method for "foreign residents in Japan" who have difficulty finding time to study. A pilot study was conducted with two non-Kanji background spouses in the initial stages of learning Japanese. The results suggest the effectiveness of the K-code: 1) the instructor's observations and the subjects' comments indicated that they had acquired the ability to identify character components and no longer felt reluctant to write, and 2) 38 Japanese people evaluated the character forms after K-code instruction more highly than those before instruction.
